Sugar Maple Swine got its humble beginnings with our daughter's compassion for animals... when she came home one day all choked up because a friend's pig litter had a runt which they were just going to let die. It didn't take long before Mom gave in and the next thing you know we had a little sickly, beat up piglet sharing a bedroom with our daughter.
This began our passion for the species, and after our first experience with true farm fresh pork we were hooked! We've had several litters since, some going to FFA and 4H projects, some to breeders, and some for market.
Now hovering around 1,000 pounds, that little runt is a family pet (but she does not live in the house anymore!) who helped give Sugar Maple Swine its name after numerous visitors commented on how she smelled like pancake syrup.
